Case Study- Design a way to service evaporative coolers on a roof safely and more efficiently.
Brazos Manufacturing was approached with a couple of different problems by their client. The client needed a way to service their evaporative coolers on the roof in a safe and more efficient way. The current method was to use ladders which were very cumbersome. Using ladders not only created a hazard for maintenance personnel, but could potentially damage the roof with the ladder feet. In addition, the roof was frequently slippery from condensation or rain water creating a slip and fall hazard.
Solution: Brazos engineered a series of multi-level service platforms and walkways that integrated with the existing supports for the coolers. The first level of the platforms is accessed via a stair system and the second is accessed utilizing a caged ladder. The platforms were designed to save time when servicing the coolers, create a safe space for maintenance personnel to work and to allow for future replacement of the coolers if necessary. Installation work was contracted through St. Peter Metal Works. Their knowledge of installing similar structures proved to be seamless and time saving for this project.
