Steel Yard Ramps - Add Mobile Loading Dock AnywhereSupporting the Material Handling Industry
A yard ramp is a portable loading ramp that allows the transfer of goods between different levels, such as from the ground to the bed of a truck or to a loading dock. Brazos Manufacturing’s line of heavy duty steel yard ramps are engineered for a wide range of use. They are built using structural steel, heavy gauge formed steel, diamond deck steel plate and steel grating.
Our grating has serrations for maximum traction for forklift truck tires. Designed to take the type of heavy use typically found in an industrial, agricultural, logistical or commercial application. The use of a yard ramp (portable dock ramp) makes a loading dock available in any parking lot or produce field. A Brazos portable yard ramp allows loading and unloading of pallet goods, automobiles, sound equipment, food goods (including just picked produce in the field) or any other unit that needs to move from one level to another.
Some yard ramps are designed to be mobile, equipped with wheels for easy movement. They are adjustable in height to accommodate various truck sizes and dock heights. Others can be semi-permanently mounted to carry loads from the ground to a building or dock.

Industries Using Yard Ramps
- Warehousing and Distribution: Yard ramps can load and unload goods in warehouses where there is no permanent dock or where additional loading capacity is needed.
- Manufacturing Plants: In manufacturing settings, yard ramps can help move raw materials and finished goods between plant floors and transport vehicles.
- Agriculture: Farmers and agricultural producers can use yard ramps for loading tractors, harvests, and other equipment into trucks or storage facilities, in locations without dedicated loading docks or platforms.
- Construction Sites: Yard ramps are essential on construction sites for moving heavy machinery, equipment, and materials from ground level to different heights, or vice versa, facilitating smoother site operations.
- Military and Defense: For military logistics, portable loading docks are crucial for quickly mobilizing or demobilizing equipment and supplies in various terrains and operational contexts.
- Event Venues: For concerts, sports, and other large events, yard ramps help in the rapid set-up and breakdown of stages, seating, and equipment by providing temporary loading zones.
- Retail and Supermarkets: Especially useful during peak times like holidays, yard ramps can increase loading efficiency for handling increased inventory flow in retail environments.
- Auto Dealerships and Repair Shops: They can be used for loading and unloading vehicles from transport trucks or moving them around the facility when elevators are not available.
- Rental and Leasing Services: Businesses that frequently move large pieces of equipment or vehicles can benefit from the flexibility of a portable loading dock.
- Emergency Management: During emergency responses, portable loading docks can be rapidly deployed to facilitate the movement of supplies and equipment in disaster-stricken areas.
Loading Dock Ramps
We list below some standard portable steel yard ramps. Starting at 16,000 lbs capacity and going up to 150,000 lbs capacity. We can engineer and build ramps that exceed the dimensions and capacities listed here. Also listed here are a few of the most common accessory items that work with ramps in the field. If you will work with our customer-service team we can engineer any item that will make yard ramps safe and efficient. Here is an article to help decide if a yard ramp is a good fit in your application.
On standard model yard ramps we have the incline be done over 30′ of ramp and our models that are going to a dock or platform their length stops at 30′. However, if the yard ramp is moving from the ground to truck and back we add a 6′ length which acts as a level off. That 6′ allows the truck and load (in most cases) to move to level prior to entering the trailer. Many times steel platforms work in concert with yard ramps for a safe and effective solution. Talk to our customer service representatives if you have a question or think your application might need special attention. How to Size a Yard Ramp
1. Determine Use: Ground to trailer vs ground to dock
2. Calculate Capacity: You should take the capacity of the forklift and multiply by 3 if you are using a four wheel forklift. Use a multiplier of 4 if the truck is a three wheeler.
3. Measure Width: 84” minus 6” side rails yield 78” clear deck. Other widths available upon request.
4. Measure Length: 30′ with no leveloff is recommended for ground to dock. 36′ model (30′ straight with 6′ leveloff) allows the load on the forklift to come level before it enters the truck. 30′ of incline will fall within the operating envelope of most lift equipment on standard docks.
